SBA Woman-Owned of the Year
Principal Consultant · Vermont Healthcare Consulting
Vermont Healthcare Consulting started with a conversation at an airport shuttle stop. Jennifer Mayhew was helping a friend sketch out a new practice concept while they waited, and something clicked. The operational problems she had spent years solving for hospitals and health systems, compliance, staffing, financial systems, were the same ones stopping individual clinicians from going out on their own. Just smaller, and far more personal.
Jenn is the founder and principal consultant of Vermont Healthcare Consulting. She brings more than 13 years of experience in health and human services, in Vermont and nationwide, across hospitals, community health centers, home health, behavioral health, and state agencies. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Vermont, and she is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
She is also a first-generation college graduate with Appalachian roots and a long-distance backpacker with more than 5,000 trail miles, including a 2,200-mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. That background shapes how she works. A long climb gets done by breaking an impossible distance into manageable stretches and knowing the terrain before you pack the bag. She builds practices the same way: one planned step at a time.
She founded VHC in 2020 and grew it from a solo practice into a firm backed by a bench of 27 senior advisors, serving hospitals, federally qualified health centers, behavioral health providers, nonprofits, and state agencies across Vermont and the Northeast. In 2025 she launched Practice Launch 90, the framework she built from that work: a structured, repeatable method for taking clinicians from where they are to a practice that can stand on its own.
The traditional route to practice ownership means chasing answers from five different people, the lawyer, the accountant, the billing company, and hoping they are all on the same page. Usually, they are not. Practice Launch 90 removes that burden. Behind every engagement is a connected bench of 27 senior advisors across compliance, revenue cycle, finance, operations, and clinical leadership, all working from the same plan. You do not have to coordinate vendors or settle their conflicts on your own. Jenn and her team are with you from start to finish.
Too often, clinicians get lost in spreadsheets, paperwork, and the operational side of the work. That is the stage where many give up. Jenn’s mission is simple: take the pressure off your shoulders by putting the right systems, methods, and financial foundations in place behind the scenes. Whether you are opening your first practice, steadying one that is already running, or preparing for your next stage of growth, the goal is the same. You spend less time on management and more time caring for patients.
For Jenn, this work is grounded in faith and a conviction that strong, locally owned practices make for healthier communities.

Practice Launch 90 exists so clinicians can spend less time on paperwork, systems, and red tape, and more time on the people who need them.

The operational problems she had spent years solving for hospitals and health systems, compliance, staffing, financial systems, were the same ones stopping individual clinicians from going out on their own. Just smaller, and far more personal. That conversation became the first private practice consulting engagement, and eventually it became Practice Launch 90.
Jenn is the founder and principal consultant of Vermont Healthcare Consulting and the healthcare business consultant for clinicians behind every Practice Launch 90 engagement. She brings more than 13 years of experience in health and human services, in Vermont and nationwide, across hospitals, community health centers, home health, behavioral health, and state agencies. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Vermont, and she is a certified Project Management Professional and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. The 90 day framework was built directly from that project management training: defined phases, defined deliverables, and a plan that survives contact with reality.
She is also a first generation college graduate with Appalachian roots and a long distance backpacker with more than 5,000 trail miles, including a 2,200 mile thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. That background shapes how she works. A long climb gets done by breaking an impossible distance into manageable stretches and knowing the terrain before you pack the bag. Leadership is less about the summit, and more about how you keep moving forward, one step at a time.

In 2025 she launched Practice Launch 90, the framework she built from that work: a structured, repeatable method for taking clinicians from where they are to a practice that can stand on its own. Clinician practice ownership consulting is not a side offering for the firm; it is the reason the firm exists.
Jenn's work has been featured on WCAX News, where she explained how Practice Launch 90 helps clinicians open a private practice in about 90 days. In 2026, the U.S. Small Business Administration named Vermont Healthcare Consulting its Vermont Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year. The firm is federally certified as both a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and an Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB), and it is one of a small number of firms in the country offering private practice consulting with that combination of credentials, public sector experience, and a fixed price program.
You are not hiring one consultant. You are hiring a team. The traditional route to practice ownership means chasing answers from five different people, the lawyer, the accountant, the billing company, the credentialing service, the IT vendor, and hoping they are all on the same page. Usually they are not. Practice Launch 90 removes that burden. Behind every engagement is a connected bench of 27 senior advisors across compliance, revenue cycle, finance, operations, credentialing, and clinical leadership, all working from the same plan. Our independent practice consulting services are delivered by that bench, coordinated by Jenn, so you never have to settle a disagreement between your own vendors.
Healthcare practice compliance consulting is built into every phase rather than bolted on at the end. A new practice needs a HIPAA Security Risk Analysis, OSHA requirements, business associate agreements, a Good Faith Estimate and No Surprises Act process, and a policy and procedure set that matches its state and its care model, not a folder of generic templates. For one single clinician telehealth practice, that set ran to 32 documents. We treat healthcare practice compliance consulting as foundational because a practice that is not compliant is not stable, no matter how strong its revenue looks.

Practice Launch 90 is built on the work of Vermont Healthcare Consulting, the firm behind it. VHC partners with hospitals, FQHCs, behavioral health providers, nonprofits, and state agencies, bringing policy experience, operational rigor, and fair, practical design to every engagement. Its track record includes a multimillion dollar HUD youth homelessness grant, a federal HHS community project, and full delivery of a state Blueprint for Health project at Gifford Medical Center. That public sector discipline is what makes our private practice consulting different from a course or a checklist: the same standards for documentation, deliverables, and accountability apply to a solo practice as to a state contract.
Is Practice Launch 90 a separate company?
Practice Launch 90 is the national practice transformation division of Vermont Healthcare Consulting, LLC. Contracts, invoicing, and the advisor bench sit with VHC.
Where are you based, and do you work outside Vermont?
The firm is based in Williston, Vermont, and serves clinicians in all 50 states. Most engagements run virtually with in person work where it adds value.
What makes a healthcare business consultant for clinicians different from a general business coach?
Domain knowledge. Payer enrollment, HIPAA, coding, and state practice acts are not general business problems, and getting them wrong is expensive. Clinician practice ownership consulting requires people who have run these systems inside real healthcare organizations.
Do you only work with new practices?
No. Independent practice consulting services from Practice Launch 90 cover Launch, Stabilize, and Scale, including established group practices and larger organizations.
Healthcare business consulting partner for clinicians — from “Where do I even start?” to “We’re officially open.”
"Break an impossible distance into doable stretches. Know the terrain before you pack the bag."
