A Founder Who Knows the Challenges Firsthand
Vermont Healthcare Consulting started with a conversation at an airport shuttle stop. Jennifer Mayhew was helping a friend sketch out a new practice concept while they waited, and something clicked. The operational problems she had spent years solving for hospitals and health systems, compliance, staffing, financial systems, were the same ones stopping individual clinicians from going out on their own. Just smaller, and far more personal.
Jenn is the founder and principal consultant of Vermont Healthcare Consulting. She brings more than 13 years of experience in health and human services, in Vermont and nationwide, across hospitals, community health centers, home health, behavioral health, and state agencies. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Vermont, and she is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
She is also a first-generation college graduate with Appalachian roots and a long-distance backpacker with more than 5,000 trail miles, including a 2,200-mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. That background shapes how she works. A long climb gets done by breaking an impossible distance into manageable stretches and knowing the terrain before you pack the bag. She builds practices the same way: one planned step at a time.
She founded VHC in 2020 and grew it from a solo practice into a firm backed by a bench of 27 senior advisors, serving hospitals, federally qualified health centers, behavioral health providers, nonprofits, and state agencies across Vermont and the Northeast. In 2025 she launched Practice Launch 90, the framework she built from that work: a structured, repeatable method for taking clinicians from where they are to a practice that can stand on its own.
